Trezor Setup Guide

Getting Started with Your Trezor Device

Welcome to Trezor, the most trusted hardware wallet for securing your cryptocurrencies. This step-by-step guide will help you set up your Trezor device quickly and securely.

Before starting, ensure you have your Trezor device, USB cable, and a computer with internet access. For optimal security, perform the setup in a private environment away from cameras and prying eyes.

Security First

Always purchase your Trezor device directly from the official Trezor.io website to avoid tampered devices.

Initial Setup Process

Visit trezor.io/start in your web browser. The website will automatically detect your Trezor model (Trezor One or Trezor Model T) and provide specific instructions for your device.

You'll be guided to install Trezor Bridge, a communication tool that allows your Trezor device to interact securely with your web browser. After installation, connect your Trezor using the provided USB cable.

The setup wizard will then prompt you to install the latest firmware. This critical step ensures your device has the most recent security patches and features. Never skip firmware updates.

Unbox & Verify

Carefully unbox your Trezor and verify the holographic seal to ensure your device is genuine and untampered.

Connect Device

Connect your Trezor to your computer using the USB cable and navigate to trezor.io/start

Install Firmware

Follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest firmware for optimal security and functionality.

Create Wallet

Generate your recovery seed and set up a secure PIN to protect your device from unauthorized access.

Creating Your Recovery Seed

The most critical step in setting up your Trezor is creating and securely storing your recovery seed. This 12 to 24-word phrase is your master backup that can restore access to all your cryptocurrencies if your device is lost, stolen, or damaged.

Your Trezor will display the recovery seed words on its screen. Write them down in exact order on the provided recovery card. Never store your seed digitally—no photos, cloud storage, or text files.

After writing down your seed, you'll be asked to verify it by selecting the words in correct order. This ensures you have properly recorded your backup.

Setting Up Your PIN

Create a strong PIN to protect your device from physical access. The Trezor uses a unique matrix system where the numbers appear in random positions each time you enter your PIN, preventing observation attacks.

Choose a PIN that's at least 4 digits long, but consider using 6-8 digits for enhanced security. Remember that there's no "forgot PIN" option—if you lose your PIN, you'll need to wipe the device and restore using your recovery seed.
